If you don't know what your head circumference is, nothing could be simpler, all you need is a tape measure (soft ruler) or possibly a shoelace to measure the perimeter of your skull. Just go around your head, going roughly down the middle of the forehead and through the widest spot at the back.
 
For those who use a lace, you must transfer the length taken to a flat ruler to obtain the measurement. There you will have no unpleasant surprises when you receive your cap!
